Anubias ‘Verking’ is a cultivated Anubias variety valued for its broad, lush leaves, compact form, and very hardy nature. It fits perfectly in low-tech tanks, beginner setups, and aquascapes that need strong, leafy greenery with minimal maintenance.
Leaf Type: Broad, oval to slightly elongated; thick and leathery.
Leaf Color: Deep green; young leaves may appear bright green.
Size: Typically grows 10–20 cm tall, depending on placement and conditions.
Growth Form: Rhizome-based, forming dense clumps.
Texture: Glossy leaves with pronounced veins, giving a bold, structured look.
Prefers low to medium light.
High light not required and can encourage algae.
Optional, not necessary.
CO₂ may promote slightly faster growth, but plant does well without it.
Temperature: 20–28°C
pH: 6.0–7.8
Hardness: Soft to hard water (highly adaptable)
Flow: Gentle to moderate.
Suitable for:
Mid-ground in small tanks
Foreground to mid-ground in larger tanks
Attach to driftwood, lava rock, or stones
Do NOT bury the rhizome.
Very hardy and low-maintenance.
Clean older leaves occasionally.
Trim by cutting the rhizome if it becomes large.
By rhizome division:
Cut rhizome into pieces containing 3–4 leaves each.
Tie or glue onto hardscape.
New shoots emerge steadily from the rhizome nodes.
Strong, bold leaf structure makes it an excellent centerpiece plant.
Highly tolerant of:
low lighting
fluctuating parameters
beginner mistakes
Works exceptionally well in blackwater, shrimp, or community tanks.
Benefits from light liquid fertilization.
Root tabs not required unless partially buried in substrate.
Avoid heavy dosing → can cause algae on leaves.
Because growth is slow, leaves can accumulate:
green spot algae
hair algae
Keep lighting moderate and avoid overfeeding nutrients.
Rare, but can happen when:
water changes are extreme
plant is buried incorrectly
Stable water conditions ensure recovery.
Low-tech tanks
New aquarists
Nature-style & driftwood-based aquascapes
Shrimp tanks
Mid-ground greenery
