OB PEACOCK

₹250.00 0% Off ₹250.00

The designation "OB" refers to distinctive Malawi Cichlids sporting captivating spotted patterns. This moniker came about through the crossbreeding of a male Aulonocara and a female Mbuna. While the OB gene is a natural feature of Mbunas, it has been artfully integrated into Peacocks and Haps through meticulous selective breeding.

Within the realm of Cichlid enthusiasts, fervent discussions abound regarding the merits of these hybrids. Yet, despite the debate, we find ourselves captivated by the remarkable beauty and individuality inherent in these hybrids. In fact, we've embarked on a journey to craft strains that are exclusively our own, setting the stage for unprecedented aquatic wonders.

Consider an O.B. peacock cichlid. This fish results from a hybridization involving male Aulonocara cichlids and female mbuna cichlids. Both these cichlid species originated in Lake Malawi in Africa and, as such, generally prefer a freshwater tank.

Peacock cichlids come in several colors, often featuring blue, red, yellow, orange, black, and white scales. This species is dimorphic, with males developing a mixed and spotted coloration, while females keep a black and silver coloring (while developing a spotted morph).

Expect to maintain a minimum 55-gallon tank for peacock cichlids, with some adults requiring 100 gallons or more to flourish. We don’t consider peacock cichlids either plant or reef compatible. They thrive with a low level of care and may produce eggs if you keep a male and female together.

O.B. peacock cichlids may live up to 15 years. Aquarium experts consider the species very hardy and rate them as semi-aggressive to aggressive with other aquatic animals.
